Light is a third year high school student (12th Grade) at Daikoku Private Academy who also attends supplemental classes at Gamou Prep Academy in the beginning of the story. Light has a father, [Soichiro Yagami](https://anilist.co/character/1927/Yagami-Souichirou), who is the head of the Police Force. Light also has a mother, [Sachiko Yagami](https://anilist.co/character/14735/Yagami-Sachiko), and a younger sister, [Sayu Yagami](https://anilist.co/character/8135/Yagami-Sayu). In Spring 2004, he becomes a first-year student (freshman) at To-Oh University and gets one of the top scores of its entrance exam.

Nicknamed "Kira", he uses the Death Note to create his ideal world of justice under him; its new God. Though he looks frail, Light is an extremely athletic person, with an aptitude to find an opponent's weak point. He is a genius, which adds to his notion that only he is fit to judge humanity and steer it on a proper moral course.

Light Yagami is a genius high school student who is about to learn about life through a book of death. When a bored shinigami, a God of Death, named Ryuk drops a black notepad called a Death Note, Light receives power over life and death with the stroke of a pen. Determined to use this dark gift for the best, Light sets out to rid the world of evil… namely, the people he believes to be evil. Should anyone hold such power?

A Japanese actor, voice actor, singer and narrator from Saitama Prefecture.

Miyano joined The Himawari Theatre Group at the age of 7 under the influence of his older brother, yet he did not attend the class as much as he should have. After entering high school, due to the uncertainty he felt towards the future, Miyano started attending singing and dance lessons he has been skipping until now. While taking music lessons, Miyano started to discover his music style through the encounter with music produced by singers like CHEMISTRY and EXILE. Miyano's first acting job was in 1992 in Tokusou Exceedraft, where he appeared in a flashback as a child in a yakuza member's past.

In 2001, he had his voice acting debut in a live action teen drama Caitlin's Way.

In 2002, he voiced Riku in the Japanese version for the video game Kingdom Hearts. Miyano also had his first anime voice acting role the same year, voicing Akira in [Shin Megami Tensei Devil Children: Light & Dark](https://anilist.co/anime/4068/). In 2003, he voiced [Kiba](https://anilist.co/character/241/), the main character in [Wolf's Rain](https://anilist.co/anime/202/). For his role as Light, he was nominated for two awards at the first ever Seiyuu Awards in March 2007.

On May 28, 2007, on the King Records label, Miyano debuted as a singer with the single "Kuon." The single debuted at number 47 on the Oricon charts and was used as the ending theme song for anime series [Koutetsu Sangokushi](https://anilist.co/anime/2162/). On June 13, he released a collaboration single titled "Fight," with fellow voice actress [Romi Park](https://anilist.co/staff/95082/). The duo's single debuted on the Oricon chart at number 73.

In 2008, at the second Seiyuu Awards, Miyano won "Best Actor in a Leading Role" for his roles [Setsuna F. Seiei](https://anilist.co/character/4234/) and [Rikuson Hakugen](https://anilist.co/character/2844/), from [Mobile Suit Gundam 00](https://anilist.co/anime/2581/) and [Koutetsu Sangokushi](https://anilist.co/anime/2162/) respectively. 1. Genshisuru Kami (Visions of a God) 
A two hour episode of Death Note, mainly a compilation of the confrontations between Light and L, re-edited from Ryuk's perspective with new dialogue and soundtrack along with additional animation that could not be included in the original series. An Unnamed Shinigami comes to Ryuk to question him about his new story in the human world. 
2. Eru o Tsugu Mono (L's Successors) 
This story continues where the previous left off, continuing the story of Light. As the previous special told Light and L's battles, this story does the same with the conflicts between Light, Mello, and Near.
