All around the world, Pretty Cures have been fighting against the invasion of an enemy known as Saiark. Shirayuki Hime, the princess of Blue Sky Kingdom, is a Pretty Cure; but unable to defeat the enemy alone, she falls behind the others, and ends up in a bad situation. 
On her quest to find a partner, she meets Aino Megumi (Cure Lovely), and the two join forces to battle the enemy together. They learn that by assembling all PreCards, you can get any one wish fulfilled, and they team up with the fairy Ribbon to protect world peace, transform, and dress up as they fight!

Excitedly, she brings her stuffed bear Mofurun with her to see what it was. When she gets there she sees a girl named Riko flying on a broom. Mirai has a lot of questions, and Riko explains that she's searching for something. The two of them are wearing similar pendants. Then Batti, an ally of the dark magic user Dokurokushi, appears before them and demands the "Link Stone Emerald." Batti creates a monster called a "Yokubaru" and drives them into a corner. Mirai, Riko, and Mofurun join hands and speak the magic words "Cure-Up Rapapa," their pendants glow, and they become the legendary Precure.

Using the power of the PreCards and their changing forms, alongside Cure Honey and Cure Fortune, they form the HappinessCharge PreCure team as they are given the task to collect all of the PreCards and defend the Earth against the Phantom Empire.

The story begins when the protagonist Hikaru meets aliens Lala, Prunce, and Fuwa while watching the night sky. She learns of the "Star Palace," where the 12 Star Princesses of the constellations kept the balance of the universe until they were attacked. Lala is searching for the legendary Precure warriors to help find the 12 scattered "Princess Star Color Pens" and revive the princesses. When Fuwa is captured by an enemy, Hikaru wishes to save Fuwa, and a Star Color Pendent and a Star Color Pen appear to allow her to transform into Cure Star. From then on she works to collect the pens and raise Fuwa, who is the key to reviving the princesses.

Deep inside the Earth lies a magical place called the "Healing Garden", which cared for the planet for centuries and is been protected by animal-like fairies named "Healing Animals". However, the garden was attacked by the antagonistic group called Bjögens whose goal is to infect the garden and slowly poison the planet. In order to save the Healing Garden, Latte escaped to the human world alongside three "medical trainee" Healing Animals, on a mission to find three people who can partner with them.
